Becky & Luke’s Wedding
My name is Nicholas Hill and I work as a Kent Wedding Photographer. I am always excited the first time I get the opportunity to cover a new venue. Westenhanger Castle Photography is always an exciting prospect. The castle boasts many beautiful features including spacious bridal preparation rooms. The stunning Tudor Castle also has a spectacular replica Pocahontas Ship, something I took full advantage of with the bride and groom. Set in the Kentish countryside with an attached Georgian Manor House.
When I first met with Becky and Luke to discuss their Westenhanger Castle Photography it was clear that Becky had very high expectations. We spent a great deal of time discussing the day and we planned out exactly how we would go about creating a signature piece for them both.
Becky & Luke’s Thoughts
“Luke and I met ten years ago at university. We finally made it official and got married on August 11 2016. We knew from the start that it didn’t matter where we got married as long as it was captured beautifully. From the beautiful engagement photos to the incredible wedding album we couldn’t have asked for more from Nick. It was clear he had our best interests at heart and listened to how we wanted our day to be captured. The photos literally took our breath away and now we can keep the memories of the best day of our lives close by. Thank you Nick!”
I always like to start my Westenhanger Castle Photography with the details. I love to photograph the pristine dress and shoes. Becky had put a lot of thought in the peach dress and colour schemes.
I was very impressed with the staff at Westenhanger Castle and the small attentions to detail they provide, such as wonderful mannequin on which to place the dress to ensure it has time for the creases to fall out.
When I arrived to start the Bridal Westenhanger Castle Photography I found Becky and her bridesmaids were in amazingly bubbly spirit. Everyone was calm and relaxed. The girls were all colour co-ordinated in their bridesmaids shorts and T-Shirts.
Becky used a professional hair and makeup stylist which I do think helps to reduce the stress on the day and ensure that she looks simply amazing!
Matthew met up with Luke for his Westenhanger Castle Photography Groom session. The boys were in fine form and full of lads banter.
It is great for Matthew to capture the moments when the boys put on their button holes. It is nice to capture candid moments as they groom and his groomsmen play around.
Allowing enough time at the venue means that Matthew can also make sure he captures some nice portraits with the Groom.
It is nice to begin the ceremony with Westenhanger Castle Photography of the bride and bridesmaids as they come down the wonderful staircase.
The side door provides direct and easy access to the aisle. Becky’s Father was so proud as he walked his beautiful daughter down the cream carpeted aisle.
The wedding ceremony takes place at Westenhanger Castle under the cover of a beautifully green and ivy covered Gazebo. Luke was eagerly awaiting the arrival of his beautiful bride.
Becky and Luke walked back down the aisle as guest there the traditional confetti. It is always great to ensure you supply confetti these days as guests often don’t think to bring any.
For the Reception at Westenhanger Castle Photography we like to take advantage of the spacious country setting. The courtyard is surrounded by the old castle ruins which make for an amazing backdrop.
Matthew is able to use a longer lens, ensuring he can capture the moments without guests feeling conscious or even being aware that their picture is being taken.
I had already discussed with Becky where the couple would like their formal photographs to be taken. The first thing we did was take everyone out to the front of the castle. Becky requested a group shot of all the guests in front of the Pocahontas ship. I used one of the castle upstairs windows to achieve this.
Becky has produced quite a long list of formal photographs she required. In order to ensure this could be achieved in good time I always supply additional copies of the shot list. This allows the couple allocate the job of finding guests to those who know the wedding party.
Westenhanger Castle Photography is always elevated by the use of such beautiful and varied grounds. Becky and Luke had taken full advantage of my pre-wedding shoot. This enabled us to go around the grounds capturing beautiful portraits with needing to spend any time teaching them how to do this as we had already covered the basics before the wedding.
With so many stunning period features Becky and Luke were very happy with everything we were able to get sone in just 20 minutes.
Later that evening we went back outside to capture the iconic Pocahontas Ship portrait.
The Breakfast Room
The wedding breakfast and evening entertainment is hosted in a dedicated Marque set in the grounds for Westenhanger Castle Photography. It is tastefully decorated with cream drapes which can then be decorated to the individual tastes of the bride and groom.
Westenhanger Castle Photography for speeches works very well. With a clean white ceiling we are able to beautiful lift the photography with our dedicated flash lighting system. We set up the lights so that the guests and speakers are undistracted.
It is always lovely to photograph the emotions as they unfold during the speeches. It is a time to laugh, and cry. It is always nice to watch the groom whilst he listens carefully to the best man’s speech unsure what stories might get shared with all the guests.
We were treated to a performance by Becky’s bridesmaids as they performed a song they had written specially for the bride and groom.
First Dance & Cake Cutting
We get to see many wonder wedding cakes. I was especially impressed with the quality and display if Becky’s cupcake wedding cake. Becky and Luke even used a sword to carry out the cake cutting.
Westenhanger Castle Photography benefits from the dedicated dance floor that occupies one end of the marquee. Becky and Luke enjoyed a great first dance.
It is always nice to stay a little later into the evening. We can spend time with the guests as they let their hair down. Dancing to the Macarena is a great wedding party favourite!
