Catherine & Joseph’s Wedding

My name is Nicholas Hill and I am always excited at the prospect of The Orangery Maidstone Photography for couples getting married. Over the years I have covered many beautiful weddings here. I am always amazed at how peaceful this place is so close to the heart of Maidstone. You transported to another place and time.

Catherine & Joseph’s Thoughts

Testimonial

“We found Nicholas Hill after seeing that he had won ‘Kent wedding photographer of the year’. After looking on his website and an initial meeting with him we loved his photos and decided to go ahead and book. On the day Nick was extremely professional, he took control which made us feel relaxed as he knew exactly what he was doing. Nick had visited The Orangery before so he knew the different features of the venue and where to get a good photo. The engagement shoot was an added bonus as we got to know Nick and after seeing the photos we were able to let him know the style of shot we liked which was really useful when it came to the big day. We’re so pleased with our photos and can’t wait to see our album. We would definitely recommend Nick to anyone looking for a wedding photographer. We would also thoroughly recommend the photo booth option; we got some fantastic fun photos of all of our guests which are a great way to remember the day!”

Getting Ready

Wedding Details

I always start The Orangery Maidstone Photography by concentrating on the bridal details. I love to take time with the dress, shoes, and flowers. These pictures help tell the unique story for each couple.

Bridal Preparation

The Bride

Catherine was slightly nervous at the prospect of getting ready at her parents house in Bromley. The drive down from London is unpredictable so she was keen to leave in plenty of good time.

I ensured I arrived earlier than usual to allow for any travel problem. I arrived to discover the bridal party were enjoying a wonderful prep party in the conservatory.

The bridesmaids were having their makeup touched up and Catherine was just starting her makeup. I like to wait until the bride is close to being finished before taking her bridal makeup pictures so she looks her most beautiful for the camera.

We all arrived in good time at The Orangery Maidstone Photography and took advantage of the opportunity to take pictures in the main house away from the orangery and the guests who were starting to arrive.

Groom Preparation

The Groom

Joseph decided he wanted to meet Matthew at The Orangery Maidstone Photography for the final touches of getting ready. It is always nice to take pictures of the groom attending to the final details.

Matthew always makes sure he photographs the groom and groomsmen as they have their button holes attached.

The Ceremony

The weather was perfect for The Orangery Maidstone Photography, and an outdoor ceremony which took place on the upper field of under the gazebo.

The trees offer a welcome shade for the strong sunlight and everyone looked magnificent, not least the groom.

Joseph waited patently for Catherine to make the long walk from the main house. I like to follow the bridal party telling their story as they travel to the Gazebo.

Matthew is with the groom as he waited patiently for Catherine to arrive. It is always nice to capture the reaction of the groom as he sees his bride for the very first time as she walks down the aisle.

Joseph and Catherine elected to have their Orangery Maidstone Photography receiving line by the bridge. It is a perfect place to greet the guests as they pass through to the reception area outside the orangery.

The Reception

There is plenty of space outside The Orangery Maidstone Photography for the guests to mingle and enjoy their champagne reception. Matthew typically covers the wedding reception whilst I concentrate on the formals and portraits.

The Orangery is perfect with its large outdoor space for Matthew to photograph the guests as they drink, chat, and laugh amongst themselves. We can often do this with being intrusive and often the guests are not even aware that we are taking their pictures.

The Formals

There are several places for Orangery Maidstone Photography to position the formal pictures. Catherine had provide a list of pictures and the people needed for each picture.

I always print out several additional copies of the formals. I always arrange in advance for the couple to make sure that two members of the wedding party can help round up the people required for each formal. It allows us to get the formals completed swiftly and efficiently.

The Portraits

The grounds are perfect for Orangery Maidstone Photography and when it comes to taking portraits I love to take advantage of several locations around the grounds. From the lake to the formal gardens there is no shortage of places to create beautiful portraits.

Catherine and Joseph were very keen that we spend only 20 minutes taking portraits in order for them to return to the reception as quickly as possible.

I find that couples always benefit from having a pre-wedding shoot with me. I am able to make them feel comfortable in front of the camera and this results in better wedding photography.

The Breakfast Room

The Orangery Maidstone Photography breakfast room always look great. The large spacious breakfast room allows us to light the subjects beautifully.

Catherine and Joseph are both very keen and competitive tennis players and the details reflected this with great rackets on display.

Wedding Speeches

I always look forward to the speeches at The Orangery Maidstone Photography look good thanks to the great lighting we are able to setup in order to capture these moments.

A good Father of Bride speech is key to getting the audience onside and feeling part of the evening. Catherine and Joseph chose to have their speeches after the main meal.

Joseph regained everyone with the story of how hard he worked to gain Catherine’s affections. This was followed by a cracking best mans speech which had everyone in stitches.

First Dance & Cake Cutting

The wedding cake is prominently on display during your Orangery Maidstone Photography. Catherine and Joseph chose to cut the cake followed by an immediate first dance.

After a few minutes the guests were asked to join them on the dance floor. I like this moment as it allows other couples to share in the romance of the wedding day by dancing together.

Photo Booth

The award winning Photo Booth is a perfect accompaniment to any wedding and it works great at the Orangery Maidstone. We get the booth setup during the main meal. Once the evening gets started all the guests get to have fun and strike a pose with their friends.
