Gillian & Tom’s Wedding

My name is Nicholas Hill and I specialise in St Clere Estate Photography. I was so excited when I met with Gillian and Tom. Despite having provided a great deal of professional photography for the Estate I had never actually covered a wedding with them despite being a wedding photographer!

Over the years I have got to know the estate, grounds, and family that live on the St Clere. I consider it one of the most exclusive wedding venues in Kent. There is very limited wedding availability at the venue and so you are guaranteed a uniquely special wedding.

Getting Ready

Wedding Details

I always begin my St Clere Estate Photography by taking time to photograph the carefully selected wedding details. The attention a bride puts into choosing her wedding dress, bridal shoes and flowers requires careful attention by myself. It is so important that these are done properly as they form an important part of the storytelling.

Gillian had received a bespoke bottle of Jo Malone perfume with initials and wedding date stamped on the box. I immediately spotted this and made sure I photographed it. I also noticed that the wedding rings had been engraved so I carefully photographed the engraving.

Bridal Preparation

The Bride

I joined Gillian at her parents house. I arrived early to start the bridal party St Clere Estate Photography. The girls were all getting ready in the conservatory and the morning was already in full flow.

Gillian employed the services of a professional for her hair and makeup. I think this attention to detail shows in the photography of the bride throughout the day.

The flower girl and page boy were also part of the bridal party and very happy with the camera. Gillian with the help of her bridesmaids got ready in her old bedroom. It is important to capture these moments as they help tell a complete and beautiful story.

I am always ready for the moment when the Father of the Bride see’s his daughter for the first time. The emotional connection is priceless and makes for beautiful photography.

Groom Preparation

The Groom

Tom and his groomsmen got ready at his parents house. The groom lived on the same road as the bride and this was very much party of the story of how they met. I dropped Matthew off early with Tom to start his St Clere Estate Photography.

Matthew will ensure he spends time telling the story of the groom. It is very nice to when it comes to designing a wedding album to have images from both the bride and groom getting ready.

Tom and his groomsmen travelled to the church nice and early in order to be there to greet their guests. Matthew is always ready for the moment Tom and the boys attached their buttonholes.

The Ceremony

The church ceremony was in Otford Church. Gillian arrived at the church in a white taxi. This was also part of the story of how Gillian and Tom first met.

The weather was simply stunning and as Gillian stepped out of the taxi and into the sun she looked simply delightful. The church at Otford complimented the St Clere Estate Photography I was able to produce.

As Gillian walked down the aisle Tom looked electric with excitement. Gillian’s face lit-up as soon as she saw Tom waiting for her. The bride and groom looked so happy throughout the ceremony.

As they walked out the church they were showered in confetti before getting in the taxi to be whisked away to the St Clere Estate for the start of the celebrations.

The Reception

I consider the grounds perfect for St Clere Estate Photography. The guests have so much space to roam and enjoy their champagne and canapés.

Myself and Matthew have so much space to move around photographing the wedding guests that they are totally unaware of us taking their pictures as they laughed, chatted, and played various garden games.

Despite clouding over slightly the weather was still very warm and just the perfect English summers day.

The Portraits

Due to the later start of the wedding ceremony the guests were not due to sit down for their wedding breakfast until 6pm. I was concerned that the weather might continue to change and we would be left with no light for the couples St Clere Estate Photography portraits.

I headed off with Gillian and Tom to produce portraits in two key locations. We started down by the lake where we utilised the white folly in their pictures.

We moved back up to the main grounds where we continued to produce a series of beautiful and candid portraits for Gillian and Tom. The couple had previously taken advantage of a pre-wedding session with myself where we cover many of the basics required to produce relaxed and natural looking images.

The Breakfast Room

The wedding breakfast is hosted in a marquee set within the main gardens. Marquees are excellent for St Clere Estate Photography. The defused natural light provides a light and airy space in which to enjoy the wedding breakfast.

It is always crucial for myself or Matthew to gain access to the marquee before the guests are called to breakfast. We will proceed to photograph the details of the wedding breakfast. This might include the floral arrangements, table layouts, and the wedding cake.

Gillian and Tom had provided so many small and beautiful little touches to the marquee from the garden flowers to the personalised bottles of Gin & Tonic.

Wedding Speeches

The wedding speeches were very traditional. They were held after the evening meal and Gillian’s Father started the whole event in fine form. Tom proceed to tell everyone the story of how the couple met.

It turns out that they shared a very late taxi home from London after missing the last train. It turned out they both lived in the same road in Otford.

The best man did a fantastic job of causing just a little embarrassment at Tom’s expense, along with photographic documentary evidence. For the record no man should be photographed in a mankini.

First Dance & Cake Cutting

The evening was started with Gillian and Tom cutting the cake followed by taking to the dance floor for their choreographed first dance. The couple had perfect a completed dance routine and it always looks so good!

Gillian followed the first dance with a Daddy Daughter dance. It was such a lovely moment to photograph for the whole family to cherish in years to come.

Disco

The disco continued long into the night. I find that a live band attracts a greater number of people to enjoy the music. Wedding guests are drawn to the performance of a live band. The music was great and everyone danced well into the night. We like staying later to ensure complete St Clere Estate Photography coverage that tells a complete story.
