Tracey & John’s Wedding

Port Lympne Mansion Photography is such a wonderful wedding venue nestled in the hills above the English Channel in Kent. My name is Nicholas Hill and I had the privilege of covering the wedding of Tracey and Jon. I am based just 15 mins from the Mansion and consider this one of my local venues. I have covered many beautiful wedding here and have a wealth of experience when it comes to getting the very best from your Port Lympne Mansion Photography.

Getting Ready

Wedding Details

Tracey was getting ready at her beautiful converted Oast House just outside of Faversham. I always like to begin my Port Lympne Mansion Photography by taking time to photograph the bridal details. The wedding dress, shoes, and flowers are so important. I take my time to ensure they are photographed properly.

Bridal Preparation

The Bride

When I arrived at the Oast House in Faversham it was clear that Tracey and her bridesmaids were all very relaxed in in full flow of the bridal prep. Tracey was getting ready in the master bedroom which looked stunning. The rounded Oast is a perfect backdrop and having never been inside a converted oast it was good fun too.

Tracey had employed the services of a professional hair and makeup artist. I like to find a balance of good story telling pictures and detailed makeup shots. I always wait until the final stages of makeup to ensure that the pictures are very much the finished look.

Tracey had one bridesmaid who also had the important job of giving Tracey away during the ceremony. It was cleat that the girls were very close which made for beautiful pictures as Victoria helped during the final stages of Tracey getting ready.

Groom Preparation

The Groom

John and his three best men arrived at Port Lympne Mansion Photography early in the morning to ensure they could get ready in the wedding suite with good time to spare.

It is always great storytelling when the groom needs to google just how to fold an handkerchief or tie a cravat.

We always ensure that Matthew is with the groom early enough to ensure that there is plenty of time to photograph the button holes and even get out for some nice portraits with the groom and groomsmen.

The Ceremony

The outdoor ceremony at Port Lympne Mansion Photography is a beautiful setting. The wedding takes place on the steps under the arches at the back of the mansion.

John waited patiently as Tracey and Victoria took the walk around the back of the mansion to appear at the top of the aisle. I like to follow the bridal party taking lovely candid photos as Tracey walked around the back of the Mansion.

When we reach the aisle I quickly take my place at the front in order to photograph the bridal party as they walk down the aisle. I like to position Matthew at the back in order to capture the reaction of the groom as he see’s his bride for the first time.

The Reception

The reception at Port Lympne Mansion Photography has the flexibility of either being in the adjoining bar or outside if the weather is lovely. The mansion has some of the finest gardens to explore of any of the venues in Kent.

It is fantastic for us as photographers, we are able to roam freely and capture candid portraits of the guests as the mingle. I find that the storytelling aspect of the guests as they drink champagne and chat work very well. Often the guests are not even aware of us as we take their picture.

The Formals

Straight after the ceremony I like to give the guests a little time before beginning their Port Lympne Mansion Photography Formals. The layout of the mansion makes it sensible to immediate take case of the group shot on the staircase by the fountain.

Tracey and John were very keen to get the formalities out the way as quickly as possible so as to maximise their reception time.

I always bring a few extra copies of the formal photography shot list. I am able to give copies to the ushers who can then help assist rounding up the various family members as required. It allows us to be as efficient as possible in getting the formal photography completed.

The Portraits

Depending on the arrangements of the day and the weather forecast I approach the Port Lympne Mansion Photography Portraits differently.

Often if the weather is good I like to take the couple for their portrait session whilst the guests are on safari. It allows the couple free access to the entire grounds without an audience. It also then means that when we finish the couple have a few minutes together as husband and wife before their guests return and their attention returns to being good hosts.

Tracey and John had taken advantage of my pre-shoot, this enabled allowed them to feel comfortable as we proceeded with their Port Lympne Mansion Photography. It was not necessary for me to teach them anything as this had all been covered in our earlier session.

The Breakfast Room

At some point during the reception the Breakfast room will be finished and ready for the wedding party. Before the Port Lympne Mansion Photography wedding breakfast gets under way I always ensure that Matthew or I get access to the breakfast room and photograph all the details.

It is so important for us to ensure we capture the grandeur of the wedding venue before the guests are invited to be seated. These images are the details that remind a couple of the choices that made their wedding distinctive and their special day.

Wedding Speeches

The wedding speeches are one of the most important aspects of the photography I deliver to a couple. It is always lovely when the Port Lympne Mansion Photography is able to capture a wide range of emotions.

Great wedding speeches has elements of laughters, tears, and even a little embarrassment at the grooms expense in the speech delivered by his best man.

Tracey and John featured speeches that differed from the traditional. Tracey did not have her Father to give a speech. All of Tracey’s friends took turns to read lines from a beautiful poem which resulted in tears and laughter.

First Dance & Cake Cutting

The breakfast room at Port Lympne Mansion Photography is normally turned around at the end of the meal. The venue is very clever in entertaining the guests by taking the wedding party on safari. It allows the room to be cleared and the DJ to get setup for the evening.

Depending on if the couple wish to join their guests on safari I can use this time for a wonderful portrait session.

Port Lympne Mansion place the wedding cake in the entrance for all to enjoy as they enter the Marquee. John and Tracy cut the cake immediately followed by a traditional first dance.

Disco

I always ensure we stay later for Port Lympne Mansion Photography on the dance floor. The guests start to relax and let their hair down as the drinks flow. It’s always great when wedding guests strut their best dance moves for the camera.
